How vitamin D3 influences 50% reduction in colon cancer
Millions of childen in the USA are at risk, according to the Aug. 3, 2009 MSNBC/Washington Post.com article by Rob Stein, “Studies: Millions of U.S. kids lacking Vitamin D.” Low levels may be putting a generation at risk for heart disease, diabetes, and cancer as well as other diseases. But encouraging children to spend more time in the sun could lead to more skin cancer, which is already the leading type of cancer.
According to the article, ”Studies: Millions of U.S. kids lacking Vitamin D,” the latest studies appeared in the journal, Pediatrics. Another–federal study that accompanied the journal, Pediatrics study–also found an association between low Vitamin D levels and increased risk for high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and a condition that increases the risk for heart disease and diabetes, known as the metabolic syndrome. The analysis of federal data released on August 3, 2009 reported, that approximately 9 percent of those ages 1 through 21 — about 7.6 million children, adolescents and young adults — have vitamin D levels so low they could be considered deficient, whereas an additional 61 percent — 50.8 million — have higher levels, but still low enough to be insufficient.
